Retention

Teeth constantly move throughout your life as you grow and your body changes. Once you stop wearing your retainers, some degree of relapse is likely to occur. In order to limit the severity of relapse, there are some precautionary measures that can be taken.

To ensure that your teeth stay as perfect as possible after you have finished your treatment, Pinnacle recommends that you continue to wear your retainers on a part-time basis. This may be two or three nights per week for the foreseeable future.

If your retainers feel ‘tight’ when you put them in, this indicates that your teeth may not be as stable as they could be – therefore you can increase the wear to every night until they feel comfortable and fit in easily.

If your retainers fit without discomfort or difficulty, then this suggests your teeth are stable enough to wear your retainer two or three nights per week to maintain this level of stability.

When you are not wearing your retainers, keep them moist: this reduces the likelihood of them becoming brittle and breaking.

If you lose or break your retainers, you may telephone for an appointment to have replacements made, however, as you are no longer a patient at Pinnacle, there will be a charge to provide these for you. The receptionist will advise you of what the current charge is.
